Every year the Tifosi believe this is their year and Ferrari will take the glory. As the season progresses, the title hopes go down the drain and the cycle repeats. And Carlos Sainz is too aware of how he and his team have faltered in 2022. Addressing the next season, the Spaniard knows that if they don’t improve, the current picture isn’t changing.

Carlos Sainz had a pretty mediocre start to his season, as he suffered consecutive DNFs in Australia and Imola. While he took some time to get his first win at Silverstone, Sainz knew how the F1-75 was struggling to catch their rivals on race pace.
As per GP Fans, Sainz addressed the weaknesses of the 2022 car and how it exposed their title challenge. Unless they iron out these issues, it isn’t going to changing their performance-level, which was at times ‘doomsday’-like.
Sainz said, “I still believe that this car, as fast as it is, still has its weaknesses in balance and the way we set it up that I think is affecting us in race pace. This I am fully aware of and am giving the team the right feedback to make sure it also becomes a stronger car next year.”
The 28-year-old has been great at understanding car characteristics in his career so far. He added, “But there are other things that are very strong points of the car that also help. But it is things that we also need to work on for next year.”
Despite Carlos having a better 2nd half of the season, Ferrari largely was slower than Red Bull, mainly on race days. With the 2023 season just months away, the Maranello factory needs to revamp their car.
Ferrari look towards 2023 with Engine upgrades
Ferrari largely suffered from engine reliability this season, with at least 3 major engine-related retirements for its drivers. Charles Leclerc got his engine blown up under the sunny skies in Barcelona and Baku. While Carlos Sainz had his engine on fire in Austria.
Ferrari lost some key results due to their reliability. The Scuderia reportedly has to turn down their engine performance to avoid such retirements.
But as per recent rumors, the Maranello outfit has made some major upgrades on the power unit side for 2023. As per Motorsport.com, Haas’s Guenther Steiner had mentioned Ferrari’s engine for 2023 to be “The Bomb”.
The Tifosi and all F1 fans will hope he did not mean it literally. While if the team can make the engine reliable and the car faster, Sainz and Leclerc will want to better their 2022 results.

They will want to test the reliability properly at the pre-season testing, before the season starts. And as per Sky Sports, the 2023 pre-season testing may be held in Bahrain again in the final week of February. The season-opening race will also take place in Bahrain on March 5, 2023.
