The Singapore GP is around the corner, but the memories of the Italian GP are still quite fresh in our minds. The same is the case with the Ferrari drivers, who are still not over the performance they put up for the Tifosi. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc recently joked about the edgy battle with Carlos Sainz. This was after he benefitted from Ferrari’s double standards.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz had an almighty battle for the final podium spot at the Italian GP. After Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez successfully managed to overtake Sainz, it was Leclerc’s turn to attempt the same. However, despite the desperation that was shown in the Monegasque’s moves, he wasn’t able to do the same. The two even came close to crashing as Leclerc piled on the pressure and almost went into the rear of Carlos Sainz.
Many questions were raised as Ferrari allowed their drivers to race and didn’t have any team radio. Flashback to the Austrian GP, where Ferrari denied Sainz the chance to race his teammate and asked him to hold position behind Leclerc. Now, Charles Leclerc jokes about that battle as he explains how the Monza battle was fun for him, and not so much for Carlos Sainz. He said the Spaniard was the one under constant pressure.

According to @leclercdata’s Tweet, Charles Leclerc said, “It was a really fun fight. Of course, Carlos [Sainz] liked it a lot less than me, but that’s part of racing. That’s why I love racing. I experienced those battles a lot with Max [Verstappen], especially in karts. These battles make F1 so beautiful.”
Charles Leclerc cherished the fact that Ferrari allowed the driver to race. However, Carlos Sainz Sr. wasn’t too happy with Ferrari’s double standards. Let’s see what Sainz Sr. had to say.

Once Sergio Perez passed Sainz, everyone expected Ferrari to send in the team orders to hold positions like it has happened in the past. After all, the worst that can happen to a team is to have both drivers crash into each other while fighting. But that wasn’t the case at Monza, as the Monegasque ferociously attacked the Spaniard. Carlos Sainz Sr. questioned Ferrari regarding the absence of team orders.
According to Motorsportweek.com, Carlos Sainz Sr. said, “It’s curious. Sometimes they [Ferrari] decide some things, sometimes others. It is he who has to ask and understand the strategies, why sometimes they can attack each other and other times not. I am left with the result and third place. Now that it has happened, I prefer it to be like this, without any type of order or anything. Deserved. Congratulations,”
