Carlos Sainz Jr. has slowly become one of the most dependable drivers on the current F1 grid. The Spaniard joined Ferrari last year from McLaren and continued his fine form, enjoying a stellar debut campaign. The 27-year-old managed a 5th place finish in the driver’s championship last season and will look to better it this season. He was recently featured on the F1: Beyond The Grid podcast and opened up about his career. He also showed support for his fellow drivers.

Carlos speaks his mind on multi-year deals
Earlier, the former Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas, had mentioned that a multi-year deal was a crucial reason for him picking Alfa Romeo as his next team. Carlos, like the Bottas, was also always on one-year deals until he was offered a 2 year deal at McLaren.
During his recent appearance on the F1: Beyond The Grid Podcast, the Ferrari driver was questioned about the importance of a multi-year deal in the sport, to which the Spaniard replied, “I actually felt a lot more relaxed. I can go out there risk and overtake.”

Sainz believes that “When you are on a one-year deal you cannot afford bad momentums you just need to bounce back immediately.”

He added, “When you are in the mindset of I cannot do a mistake again you’re not the same. You are not as aggressive as you were.” This just goes to show how much of a difference a multi-year deal can make to a driver.
What 2022 has in store for Carlos Sainz?
This year, Sainz is entering his second year at Ferrari and will look to carry forward his first season momentum. He is also amid talks to sign an extension at Ferrari to keep him at the team beyond 2022.
