Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is enjoying his final season with the Prancing Horses, as he is to be replaced by Lewis Hamilton after this year. The Spaniard is doing so by being extremely fast on the tracks and relaxing during his off time. However, the winner of the Australian Grand Prix couldn’t keep up his performance and stood 5th during the Chinese Grand Prix.

While Ferrari is still in a huge lead compared to McLaren, there was no Prancing Horse on the podium. Despite that, Carlos Sainz seemed to have a great time in China, especially judging from the video that his fellow Spaniard racer Roberto Merhi uploaded on Instagram. But what’s more interesting than the video is Carlos Sainz’s comment on the post, which puts his girlfriend Rebecca Donaldson in the backseat.

So after the Chinese Grand Prix ended, Robert Merhi made it clear that he was there to witness the whole experience with a recap video of the race day on his Instagram. The video shows many moments from the weekend like Merhi and Sainz cycling around the Shanghai circuit together. Besides that, there are many clips of the two eating together and a lot of Carlos Sainz getting into action for the race.

With a montage of clips from his training, as he got into the car, Merhi displayed all the highlights of the weekend in an adorable video showcasing their friendship. But what Carlos Sainz did to that was unexpected. There are quite a few moments in the video where the two drivers show how close they are. To announce their bromance to the world, the Smooth Operator commented, “Vamos mi WAG,” and this set the internet in a frenzy.

To translate the text, “Vamos mi WAG” means “Come on my wife and girlfriend.” This makes it clear that Sainz is ready to take his bromance to the next level, despite having Rebecca Donaldson as his real girlfriend. Although this was a meaningless humor comment on social media, fans are losing their wits.

Roberto Merhi and Carlos Sainz Jr. have been friends as they are both Spanish race car drivers, and there aren’t too many of them. Knowing that they have similar interests, they stay together and have bonded over the years. The internet had already caught hints of the bromance and started making jokes about the same, but Carlos Sainz pulled an 8-mile and cracked the joke himself, leaving fans all the more excited.

While Roberto Merhi was in F1 only for 2 years, the driver has one of the most branched-out portfolios in the business. Looking at how well Carlos Sainz Jr. and Fernando Alonso are doing, Merhi had something to share about Spain and Formula 1.

Roberto Merhi’s outlook on F1 in Spain

Back in 2023, Merhi came forth to discuss F1 with GP Blog, and that is where he spoke about the influence of the sport in Spain. He started by saying, “It’s nice to see that now the people are following a lot Formula 1, that they are supporting the sport now, with Fernando being able to fight for podiums. I mean, you can see in Spain, everybody, the population has increased a lot watching Formula 1.”

With F1 becoming more popular by the day, the 33-year-old spoke about the two existing Spaniards on the grid. About his friend Carlos Sainz, Merhi said, “And also, Carlos being in Ferrari last year, being able to be on the podium. But I think it’s nice; you know, it shows that we have good drivers in Spain; maybe in the past, the people were not so serious.”

Extending his compliments towards the Spanish World Champion who paved the way for new drivers, he said, “And now we can show that in Spain we have good drivers, and especially with Fernando and Carlos, we can be proud of what they have achieved so far. One is driving a Ferrari, the other is driving an Aston Martin, twice World Champions, and he is 41 years old, so he is still performing at a very strong level.”
