Ever since 2007, Hamilton was thrown in on the deep end, but every single time the determined Brit stayed afloat. His determination and persistence are the reasons why Hamilton is a seven-time world champion. However, even someone as motivated as Hamilton sometimes feels defeated. Uncharacteristically, Hamilton confessed about once accepting defeat prematurely.
Albeit for a brief moment, Hamilton felt defeated during the 2021 Brazilian GP. Recalling his past with Mercedes in his 10th year, Hamilton made this revelation about the weekend in Interlagos on a YouTube video.

Hamilton narrated, “I remember in that moment for me, my heart just sunk, because I knew I had to win every race. And I remember in that moment I thought ‘it’s over, I can’t win this world championship’. With all the work that we had done through the year, I just felt so deflated and so powerless. And somehow, and it’s been something that I’ve been able to do my whole career, somehow I was able to move on.”
However, the Brit kept his feelings aside and pulled up his socks to drive his “best race ever”. “There’s nothing you can do about the past, you move forwards. Came back the next day and I drove from last to first,” he concluded.

Hamilton made his idol proud when he drove an incredible race in Brazil and waved the Brazilian flag like he belonged. Coincidentally, this gesture was a driving force in Hamilton earning his honorary citizenship of Brazil.

In the chambers of Congress, Hamilton took the podium and said, “I really want to dedicate today, this honor, to Ayrton Senna. To Ayrton’s family, to his friends, and to his fans. For me, when I was five years old, I saw Ayrton race for the first time. And that was the moment I knew, that I wanted to be world champion, just like him.”
