Fernando Alonso continued to mesmerize the world of F1 after once again securing the P3 finish yesterday. The Spaniard fought valiantly with old nemesis Lewis Hamilton but failed to get ahead of him. Nevertheless, he celebrated the podium finish just the way he celebrated his last two. The joy seemed to have been short-lived, though, as he later announced his split with girlfriend Andrea Schlager. The news left fans to go into a frenzy, cooking up wild stories, trying to make a sense of it.

Andrea, just like Fernando, is an avid sports lover with a special inclination toward motorsports. She has covered various F1 races as a journalist for the Austrian media house, Servus TV. She also covers MotoGP and Tennis. Her job is perhaps what brought her close to F1’s 2x champion heartthrob. After continuously flirting through comments on social media posts of each other, the pair confirmed their relationship last year when they arrived at the Miami GP, holding hands in the paddocks.

Alonso announced the breakup with Andrea through an Instagram story. In the heartfelt message, he recalled the good times they spent together while working on various projects together. Fernando also thanked fans for supporting them.

The Spaniard wrote, We wanted to tell you that our relationship as a couple ended. We have been lucky enough to share a fantastic time together, and it will continue to be so, but on a different form of affection.”

“As you have probably seen, we have continued working on and off track on various projects together also during this time, and we will keep doing so with deep love and respect for each other. We thought it is appropriate to share this as you have all been very supportive. Thanks for that. Love Fer&Andrea.”

Some felt it was the start of Alonso’s 2006 era when he was on top of his game and living life to the fullest.

Others cooked up theories attempting to find the reasons behind the split.

Earlier, Charles Leclerc announced a breakup with Charlotte Sine. Some wondered if it was some curse that Carlos Sainz carried with his touch. Sainz crashed into Alonso yesterday, sending him into a spin.
