Sergio Perez took his first pole position in F1 after a scintillating lap in the Saudi Arabian GP qualifying. The Mexican driver showed amazing speed throughout the weekend and out-qualified teammate and world champion Max Verstappen for only the second time in their partnership. The Red Bull driver was followed by the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in P2 and P3, respectively.

The pole lap from Checo shocked Leclerc, as he could not believe that the Red Bull beat him. But in the end, he reflected and stated that Perez took more risks than him.

The unexpected grid throws a spanner in the works for the race, as we do not know the Mexican for his qualifying prowess. It would be interesting to see how Leclerc and Sainz prepare for the start, with Max in P4 behind them.

Can the Ferrari win back to back in the 2022 season?

The Ferrari driver and championship leader has a good chance to make it back-to-back wins in the 2022 season. He would have to be careful of the threat of Verstappen behind him and manage the start accordingly. But Charles mentioned it would be a full attack come race day from his side.

“I’m a bit disappointed. Only two hundredths, it’s so close. I am pretty sure Checo’s lap is exceptional, I mean the last sector, pretty sure he took a lot of risks and was rewarded by it, and this is how it works on those city tracks. I think on our side there is plenty to learn from this qualifying,” said Leclerc.

It would also be fascinating to see how Verstappen and Sainz play a role in the race. Both drivers would be itching to make an impact on the race and also help their teammates wherever possible.

It would also be interesting to see if there are any incidents on the first lap how would that affect the midfield. Hopefully, we can have another thrilling Saudi Arabia GP on Sunday.
