Kevin Magnussen officially made his return to Formula One on Friday and in his very first on-track session since the 2020 Abu Dhabi GP, he managed to stun the entire paddock. The Danish racing driver pipped Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen to secure the fastest lap on day 2 of the ongoing F1 pre-season testing in Bahrain.

Of course, the entire racing community was bewildered by Magnussen’s drive, as he looked more comfortable than ever despite the extensive regulation changes and, most importantly, his lack of racing in F1 in over a year. Subsequently, former F1 driver and current IndyCar driver, Marcus Ericsson managed to take a jab at Formula One cars using Magnussen’s rapid adaptability of the Haas.

The Swedish racing driver pointed out that Magnussen had tested an Indy car last month and ended up slowest of all. And, quite contrastingly, he also managed to secure the fastest lap in the newly designed F1 car.

So, are F1 cars indeed easier to drive than Indy cars? Well, Ericsson’s theory caught the attention of Jenson Button as the pair kicked off a hilarious banter on social media.

Button and Ericsson engage in Twitter banter over F1-Indy battle

Ericsson took to Twitter to reckon that Indy cars are much harder to drive than Formula One cars. “A month ago Kmag tested @IndyCar at Sebring and was slowest. Now first day back in F1 and he’s fastest. Must mean @IndyCar is a lot harder and more competitive then @F1. Clearly settles that discussion once and for all #F1 #INDYCAR #LetsSeeWhoUnderstands #F1Testing,” Ericsson wrote on his official Twitter handle.

But, soon after he posted this, former F1 world champion, Jenson Button fell straight into the trap. “I agree but all those races you Won in F1 must have helped you build confidence to be competitive in Indycar?” the Briton said.

Ericsson then replied, “Man I wouldn’t have thought someone like you would take the bait. Fair play mate. It’s a burn. But next time read the #.

Overall, a rather amusing banter between the pair and it is safe to say that Ericsson hit the home run this time around. But, on a serious note, let’s hear it from you – are Formula One cars comparatively easier to drive than Indy cars?
