After Max Verstappen was given a taste of his own medicine by George Russell, it’s now time for Sergio Perez to make the Dutchman realize what it felt like to be on the other side of the 2021 F1 season. Lewis Hamilton went about the 2021 season with the hope of another title but also the scare of Max Verstappen taking it away from him. Checo is now at it as he becomes a real threat and served a warning to Max Verstappen to tighten his seatbelts. What was this threat?

Nobody expected Sergio Perez to bring the fight to Max Verstappen this season. The Mexican has taken everyone by surprise and won 2 of the 4 races so far. Checo is only 6 points behind Verstappen after the first 4 rounds. Had it not been for the unlucky qualifying in Australia, he very well could’ve led the championship. Checo even tweet that he wants to be the world champion, but later deleted that Tweet. After winning the Azerbaijan sprint and main race, morale is at an all-time high for Perez.

On the other hand, things are quite the opposite for Verstappen. After the safety car obliterated a disappointing Saturday and a collision with George Russell. Michael Schmidt suggested that Verstappen got nervous seeing Perez’s pace during the sprint race and took the frustration and nervousness out on George Russell for creating a hole in his sidepod. Nevertheless, Schmidt insists that as soon as we get back to regular tracks, Max will show his dominance once again.

According to F1Maximaal.nl, Michael Schmidt said, “I think seen throughout the season when the faster and permanent circuits come soon, Verstappen will let his class speak there again. But Pérez did show himself for a while and Verstappen was already nervous. You saw that in the sprint, I believe that was reflected in the duel with George Russell.”

Despite Schmidt’s confidence in Max to return to form at regular tracks, Sergio Perez should not be counted out. Checo explained how he should’ve been the one leading the championship.

Sergio Perez suggests that he should be the one leading the championship

Perez was unfortunate to crash out in the qualifying in Australia. He suffered from a setup issue all weekend and crashed while pushing the car. The Mexican has suggested that if he did not have the issues in qualifying, he would be the one leading the championship and not Max Verstappen. He explained how he’s fighting for the championship and knows that it’s still a long way to go.

According to Formula1.com, Sergio Perez said, “I think without the issues we had in qualifying in Melbourne, we should be leading the championship, so definitely there is everything to believe we can do well this year.

Talking about the championship, he said, “I’m fighting for it, you know. But I also know that it’s a long, massive road ahead. So I need to keep my head down and just keep delivering.”
