Most people would not have thought Michael Schumacher‘s record would ever be matched, but destiny had other intentions. Lewis Hamilton began his long, brilliant career at the Australian Grand Prix, but it was at the Canadian GP that he first experienced victory. While life has once more taken the British driver to a circuit filled with memories, it is his brother who has stood out with a challenging remark.

Back in 2007, during his debut, Lewis Hamilton had obvious intentions of becoming one of the top F1 drivers. He demonstrated those to the world in the first 5 races of the season that he wasn’t there to live in the shadow of Fernando Alonso, a 2-time world champion. Still, the British prodigy had to wait until the race in Montreal to taste glory.

Hamilton, who was 22 set the fastest time on the starting grid to take the pole position for the 2007 Canadian GP. He held off Alonso at turn 1 and again on the inside line for turn 2 to take control of the race from the outset. Hamilton ultimately took the top spot on the podium for the first-place finish at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

In his post, he wrote, “Then and now ~ There’s just something about coming back to the place you won your first race. It always feels full circle. I can’t wait to fight this weekend. Can’t wait to make more Montreal memories.”
