The rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes in 2021 was arguably one of the best we’ve seen in Formula 1 in many years. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen fought tooth and nail for the 2021 World Championship. Unsurprisingly, Red Bull boss Christian Horner feels Lewis Hamilton came out worse in last year’s series of exchanges.

Horner emphasized the Silverstone Grand Prix as a prime example of how desperate Hamilton became. In the latest episode of Tom Clarkson’s podcast ‘Beyond the Grid’ Horner delved deeper into the Hamilton-Verstappen rivalry and had some pretty interesting things to say.
Talking about Hamilton after Verstappen won the sprint race on Saturday, Horner said, “He was a bit broken after the sprint race.”. He also spoke about ‘that’ incident at Copse. “Had Max made it through Copse, I don’t think they would’ve seen him again. So there was an air of desperation.”.
This is not the first time Christian Horner has taken jabs at the 7-time World Champion. Rather, he has made it a point to always showcase how toxic last year’s championship battle became whenever he gets a chance.

While having a sly dig at Hamilton, Horner said, “I have a great deal of respect for the way he [Leclerc] has conducted himself,” Horner told reporters. “The way that he’s racing on track, it’s hard but fair.”. He also expressed his reluctance on having a title fight like last year’s. “Last year was a heavyweight bout that went 22 rounds and I’d prefer not to have to go through that again.”.
