Regardless of his nationality, Lewis Hamilton is loved all across the globe equally. And to prove the point, Hamilton is now granted an honorary citizen of Brazil. It all started when Hamilton carried the Brazilian flag during his race win around the Interlagos circuit last season. Additionally, Hamilton has professed his love for the county on multiple occasions.

Hamilton even carried the flag on the podium to celebrate with the local fans after his win at the Brazilian GP. Hamilton shared the same photos on his Instagram after getting the news. The Briton has always held the late Brazilian three-time world champion, Ayrton Senna, in the highest regard, who is also Hamilton’s idol.

Sharing the news with his 28.5 million followers, Hamilton expressed his gratitude in the caption which read, “Speechless. Today I was granted honorary citizenship to one of my favourite places in the world. I don’t really have the words right now. Thank you Brasil, I love you, I can’t wait to see you again. 🇧🇷❤️”

Sir Hamilton’s first home race is two GPs away whereas, the second home race is the second last race of the season. Because of the uncompetitive W13, there’s doubt over Hamilton’s chances of competing in the championship. However, a win in Sao Paulo would be a perfect way to commemorate his honorary citizenship.

After sharing the big news on his Instagram, which left the Mercedes man speechless, Twitter quickly reacted as well. Users came out to share and celebrate the news of his citizenship.

Hamilton’s race win last year in Sao Paulo was celebrated by defeating noise and chants by the crowd. The Britisher cheered on as one of their own is now actually is one of their own. And we expect a similar welcome for the Mercedes pilot at the season’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
