The shooting for Lewis Hamilton‘s Brad Pitt-starrer passion project will begin this year. The Briton is looking for another star to work opposite the Inglourious Basterds-famed heartthrob. While doing it, he is making an effort to make sure his commitment to inclusivity and diversity is visible. However, the whole project has hit a big roadblock. He revealed it all in the latest update to the movie’s production.

Having been a big fan of the original Top Gun movie, Hamilton wanted to work on its sequel with Tom Cruise. He even told Tom that he would do the role of a janitor if that was what would get him into the movie. The Hollywood superstar offered him a role of a fighter pilot but because of the F1 calendar, Lewis could not commit. However, his movie dream did not die with that, as he is now working on a new project as a producer. He even brought Brad Pitt to the 2022 US GP to research his role, which will be based around F1.

Hamilton is now looking for another actor to co-star with Brad in the movie and he insists that the role be given to a woman. Autosport recently quoted him as saying, “I want to make the movie, in terms of like having diversity and representation, I want it to be as Formula 1 should be in the future – or should be now, but will be in the future. I want to see female mechanics. We would love to see a female driver. We haven’t gotten to that point just yet. But why not? Right now, we’ve still got the script.

“We’ve gone through quite a few different iterations of it. We’re still waiting for a new rewrite, and that’s the whole process. But I was doing that throughout Christmas.”

While Hamilton could not work with Tom Cruise on Top Gun: Maverick, he was so mesmerized by Joseph Kosinski’s work that he roped him in to work on his $140 million project. Dawn Apollo Films also has a documentary in the pipeline currently. AppleTV+ has already bought the rights for both projects.

While explaining the reason why he named his production house Dawn Apollo films in an interview with Deadline, Lewis told, “Apollo is the Greek god of sunlight, music and poetry, so I’ve always loved the name. Dawn because it is a time of other-worldliness and light, and symbolizes new beginnings. It’s generally a time of day that I love.”
