Do you recall how McLaren and Alpine were fighting for 4th in the constructors last year? McLaren had a strong start to the season but ended up losing to Alpine. While the French team has been the one on the rise in financial terms, it is McLaren who is rising the ranks in the championship. As Esteban Ocon and Co. tumble down the competitive order, new investor Anthony Joshua vows to turn the tables around.
Alpine is currently 6th in the constructors’ standing and has made major changes to its senior management in recent times. This has come with a financial boost, as months after Ryan Reynolds, Anthony Joshua has also invested in the team besides a barrage of other stars from across sports. The two-time heavyweight champion invested via Otro Capital, as a host of athletes invested a total of $210 million in the French team.

Despite French horrors, Anthony Joshua bullish on Alpine F1
Anthony Joshua was even prepared at the United States GP to support the team that he invested in. It’s safe to say, it wasn’t the best outing for the Enstone-based team. Esteban Ocon retired early in the race after a Lap 1 contact with Oscar Piastri. Pierre Gasly on the other hand managed to hang onto P8. Alpine has been citing its ambition of challenging for the title and doesn’t seem anywhere near the top. This perplexes why Joshua & Co. may have invested in the team on a downward trajectory.

In an interview with F1 TV, Anthony Joshua said, “All they [the drivers] are trying to do really, is perform for their team. When you say the drivers, you forget about the backroom staff. They got a big team behind the scenes that put in so much work and want to win just as much as the drivers.” He went on to explain how the F1 drivers want to win for their team and the boxers want to win for their coaches.
