The French GP was the third race in which Leclerc did not finish from a leading position. Three races from the lead equate to 75 points lost, which is a tremendous blow for any driver in contention for the championship. On the 18th lap of the race, after losing the rear of the car, Leclerc spun around turn 11 and crashed into the barriers. According to his radio message, it was initially believed the throttle caused the crash. He said, “It’s my fault and if I keep doing mistakes like this, then I deserve not to win the championship.” Deserved or not, losing vital points from multiple races will definitely hurt Leclerc’s chances. And especially with Verstappen‘s consistency, the driver’s championship is slipping away from Leclerc.
