The year 2021 will go down as one of the most contentious in Formula 1’s seventy-year history. Although we witnessed Max Verstappen upset Lewis Hamilton’s hegemony that year, the manner in which it was handled continues to chafe the supporters. The Abu Dhabi GP incident, in the opinion of F1 fans, continues to be a testament to the FIA’s willingness to turn a blind eye to flagrant corruption. And the recent statements of a Real Madrid footballer quickly reignited a conversation on this issue, which was already quite sensitive for Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes fanbase.

The final race of the 2021 season will always be remembered as one of Lewis Hamilton’s most painful days. The seven-time world champion was comfortably in the lead and only a few feet away from winning his eighth world championship. But a human error by the race director at the time, Michael Masi, snatched the coveted title and handed it to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. And fans clearly hasn’t moved on.

One among those fans is the star of Real Madrid, Gareth Bale, who has also voiced his opinion against the blatant corruption of FIA. Bale asserts that he no longer wants to watch Formula 1 since the chain of events involving Lewis Hamilton on the night that he was vying for the coveted championship.

Real Madrid star quoted in a Random Gold Club YouTube video, ” You know, I don’t after what happened to Hamilton a few years ago. It wasn’t fair. The fact [Hamilton] had to go through all the traffic and he couldn’t pit stop… It was never a race.”

And a recent post that surfaced on the internet has yet again triggered Hamilton fans to attack the FIA.
