Only a few weeks to go before the new F1 season gets underway as teams get ready with their new challengers. While Haas and Red Bull have already unveiled their cars, the other eight teams are waiting for their turn. One among them is Mercedes. As the guessing game becomes strong with each passing day, the Mercedes-AMG F1 social media recently dropped a massive hint ahead of their car launch in mid-February. This not only made the fans excited but also made them make a stern demand on the German team.

Mercedes AMG F1’s official Twitter handle recently tweeted a picture of W12, the official challenger of 2021. This is all fine until the caption that says, “Black car appreciation post.” This was all for the fans to guess that the upcoming W14 was going to be in a black livery. Will it be so? We’ll see on February 15.

If the W14 comes out to be black, this will be the third time the Brackley-based team will have a black livery car as their official challenger. The first time Mercedes introduced the black livery on their car was in 2020 with W11, as they wanted to become a more inclusive and diverse team. Admittedly, this livery has been a very popular one.

The same tradition followed in 2021, with W12 having the same black livery. However, in 2022 the Silver Arrows changed their car back to Silver on the W13. Now, in 2023, it’ll be interesting to see if the W14 becomes black again as Mercedes braces for a return to the top.

Fans demand black livery from Mercedes

As soon as the post got into social media, fans took no time to share their reactions to it. The fans demanded a black livery W14, despite knowing the fact the Mercedes returned to their traditional Silver livery.

On a side note, talking about the reason for the change from black to silver, team principal Toto Wolff shared in a report published by The Express, “The black livery was a clear intent and a clear demonstration of our mission to become a more diverse and inclusive team. It has become part of our DNA, but the silver color of the Silver Arrows is as much our DNA, it’s our history.”

Coming back to the reactions, given below are the reactions taken from Twitter:

The silver livery W13 found little popularity, as most of the fans wanted the black livery back.
