Jamie Foxx is no stranger to Formula 1. In fact, the Hollywood star—who’s an Academy Award and Grammy winner—has one of his biggest fans on the F1 grid. Who is it? Lewis Hamilton. And the respect goes both ways because Foxx is also a big fan of the seven-time champion. So when Foxx’s daughter, Corrine, took to Instagram in April to announce that her father had been hospitalized after experiencing an undisclosed “medical complication,” Hamilton was one of the first people to wish him well. And now that Foxx has recovered, the first thing he did (which would’ve been much to Lewis’ liking) was post an update on Twitter, most likely about the much-anticipated Las Vegas GP this November.

Considering the excitement for the event—everyone in F1 believes it will be the event of the year—its build-up started last year when F1 hosted a launch party at the Las Vegas Strip. While discussing the party, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said, as quoted by F1.com, “The Las Vegas Grand Prix is going to become a regular fixture in the city and on the global sporting calendar, so it is important to have local fans both celebrated and celebrating with us from the very start.” And it seems like the build-up hasn’t stopped because Jamie Foxx’s Twitter update pointed to a big announcement!

Foxx posted a picture with him sitting on a gold-colored BetMGM F1 car and captioned it, “Thankful for my @BetMGM family and a great few nights in Vegas. We got BIG things coming soon 🦊” Considering the picture featured an F1 car, there’s a possibility the “BIG things coming” is F1-related—more specifically, Las Vegas GP-related. The MGM brand is a big deal in Las Vegas, and BetMGM is a joint venture of US casino operator MGM Resorts and UK-listed gambling giant GVC Holdings. Considering how popular F1 has gotten in the US and how popular betting on sports already is in the UK, Bet MGM is bridging the two.

Everyone knows Las Vegas for its casinos. It’s practically the heart of poker, a game based on gambling. And betting is nothing but that. It’s evident from the post that BetMGM will be the official site for placing bets during the Las Vegas GP, but Foxx is pointing to something more. All we can do is wait for further updates, but one thing we can be sure of—it’s going to be BIG. And as famous as Jamie Foxx has become in the F1 world after his post, he isn’t the only Hollywood star to have caught the attention of F1 fans.

When Liberty Media took over F1, everyone expected the sport’s popularity to increase in the US. But since 2017, it’s skyrocketed, and from this year on, F1 will visit three circuits in the US. This popularity was aided mainly by Netflix’s docuseries Drive to Survive. And seeing its success, Hollywood star Brad Pitt announced his F1-inspired film last year right before the US GP.

With pre-production having started last year itself—with Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff as the film’s producers—Pitt and his crew announced the film’s name right before the British GP this year, and it’s called Apex (working title). And Silverstone being the home of racing and all, Pitt decided to commence filming during the Britsh GP weekend. The FIA gave his crew a garage and track time during and after the race weekend to aid the process. The crew is set to follow F1 around wherever it gets the green flag to film. And now that filming is underway, Apex is set to hit the screens in late 2024 or early 2025.
