Formula One will continue to race in the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona. The Catalan Government agreed to sign a new contract with the sport, which will end at the end of the 2026 season. There was a lot of doubt about the Spanish Grand Prix, as F1 had announced the race for the 2022 season. The announcement of the contract extension also gives a big boost to all the F1 fans. It also bodes for the two Spanish drivers, Fernando Alonso, and Carlos Sainz. Both drivers enjoy a massive fanbase whenever the sport visits the country.

Despite announcing the date, the track was subject to contract. There were some reports that the Spanish Grand Prix might move to a different track if the sport could not agree to a new contract with the Catalan Government. The track will not be used for the pre-season testing for the 2022 season.

Fernando Alonso is my driver of the weekend: Ross Brawn

As reported by Formula1.com, F1 Managing Director Ross Brawn stated that two-time world champion Fernando Alonso was his driver of the weekend in Qatar. The Alpine driver finished in P3 after starting from the same position. He held Perez back to get his first podium since the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix.

“Fernando is my driver of the weekend. Like Lewis, he dialed into the track very quickly and got the car working well. That Alpine looked good all weekend. He’s just enjoying himself so much. He’s in his element.” said Ross Brawn.

“I’m a big fan of Fernando and I’ve always felt frustrated, he only won two world championships for someone of his talent. He’s easily my driver of the day. He’s a man who is still in love with F1 and it shows.” said the F1 MD.

Brawn is correct that the talent of Alonso deserves more than two world championships. He has come agonizingly close to his third title in 2007, 2010, and 2012, when he lost the title in the last race.
