Paul di Resta had made a revelation the world probably already knew. He had said, “I don’t think too many teammates get on with Esteban Ocon.” While there has been a changing of guards quite a few times with the man having three teammates in the last five years, the emotion hasn’t changed. And post what happened on Sunday in Australia, perhaps the latest one to join the ‘troubles with teammate club’ is Ocon’s ex-foe, Pierre Gasly.

A third Red Flag and second restart saw one of the messiest situations in recent times. The carnage that occurred saw the number of active cars on the grid reduced to only 12. The massive causality saw both Alpines bow out of contention when Gasly overcooked, went into the gravel, rejoined the track and both the teammates went out.

In The Red Flags Podcast, a pretty suited name to host a feature on Australian GP, the host ponders upon Esteban Ocon. While he begins by appreciating the man, he eventually does get to bashing Ocon for being a horrible teammate.

The host admitted to the lap 57 incident being Gasly’s fault but went to ponder upon Ocon and his troubles with his teammates that never seem to stop. He said, “Ocon is the best driver I think maybe in the sport. And keeping his nose clean and staying out of trouble and bringing the car home.”

He took a pregnant pause before blurting it out, Except with his fucking teammates. Then he f**king puts his nose in there and keeps his foot in and is a complete belligerent a**hole. I think because I think so highly of Ocon in terms of like actually coz…Here is the thing. Ocon isn’t like these other guys. He doesn’t drive emotionally.”

While Ocon has had a bad harmony with his teammates, with so much riding on the French lineup, the team boss has now stepped in for disaster management.

Otmar Szafnauer tries to mitigate damage between Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly

While the team declared that their new Frenchman asked for forgiveness for the lap 57 incident that occurred, one may always feel that this may lead to the brewing French civil war going full throttle. While the French duo on multiple occasions have stated and shown that they are cordial and some other teammates have the worst equation, can the Albert Park incident be forgiven? The Alpine TP says they shouldn’t indulge in blame games.

According to speedcafe.com, Otmar Szafnauer said, “It’s a shame that they came together. As far as trying to blame one or the other, I don’t think that’s the right thing to do; I think the right thing to do is learn from it.”

“There’s so much chaos there and you’ve got to make quick decisions.” Further adding, “Things happen in front of you where you have a decision of ‘I either run into this, run into this, or run into that,’ because we can’t avoid it.”
