Yesterday’s Belgium GP sprint was full of action. Heavy rainfall just before the start, madness in the pitstop after the safety car came in, and then Alonso crashing. Amid all of this, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez also got involved in a collision. However, the action wasn’t limited to the race but also the Sprint qualifying where Mercedes had a horrendous mix-up between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Fans slam Mercedes for their actions.

The Sprint Qualifying started under wet conditions. However, by the time we reached SQ3, the track was dry enough for everyone to put on slick tires. With the track drying every second, the last person to cross the line had the advantage. On the final lap in SQ3, Russell went for 2 hot laps back to back whereas Hamilton had a cooldown lap before his final push lap.

Unfortunately, as Russell came through to complete his lap, he went ahead of Hamilton and the two Mercedes started the final laps behind each other. Going into the first corner, Russell locked up and Hamilton lost time. The 7X champion further lost even more time behind Russell and lost his chance at a pole-challenging lap. It was a huge miscommunication by the Mercedes crew.

According to @fiagirly’s Tweet, Hamilton on the Radio said “George is on a lap and you didn’t let me know.” To which Bono replies “We were told to push through so push through when you can.” Then after Russell locked up into Turn 1, Hamilton radioed “George hasn’t got the exit. George went wide at Turn 1. Do we back down?” Continuing with the misery, Bono replied “We continue.”
