Lewis Hamilton has come a long way to reach the level he is at today. Seven drivers’ titles should probably tell you the story and journey of a driver who came in as a young rookie and dazzled everyone in 2007.

His debut season also saw him paired with one of the sport’s greatest drivers in Fernando Alonso. Hamilton, however, was unfazed in his commitment to drive and prove that he was there to stay in F1 for a long time.

Yet, criticism continues to be leveled at the 35-year-old, with some claiming Hamilton’s titles have come about solely because of the superior Mercedes car. In an interview, he opened up on these points and touched upon the season he was the better driver compared to Alonso.

Hamilton stated, “There’s no coincidence that I’m driving the way I am. And, of course, we do live now in a sport where there’s such a gap between all the teams.”

A superior car is not necessarily a pre-cursor to race wins and success, because a driver ultimately has to make it work and get past the finish line to win races. This is why Hamilton also believes he would relish the chance to race his opponents in similar machinery.

“And people try to devalue what I do because of the machine that I have, so without doubt, I would love to have everyone in the same car, with a track that enables you to really, really race. “

Hamilton finished ahead of Alonso in 2007 despite being a rookie

The Mercedes driver added and said, “And then we’ll see… Like, [Fernando] Alonso, I beat him in my first year, straight out. I was 22 years old, a rookie, and I finished ahead of him. Even today, you know, people talk about Max [Verstappen].”

“Like, it’s probably never ever going to happen, but if I did have Max come into my team and I did the job I currently do and beat him, people would say, “Oh, it’s rigged.”” concluded Hamilton.

Regardless of what critics say, Hamilton will certainly keep going and beating his opponents on the track. At the end of the day, all that counts in the business of F1 are victories and results.
