What do Carlos Sainz and Mick Schumacher have in common besides being the sons of legend dads? They are active candidates in the driver market. However, while Sainz’s future in F1 looks uncertain, Schumacher’s chances of returning have increased. With his recent test drive with Alpine’s 2022 A522, the German seems to have somewhat consolidated his future in the sport, but that’s not all. Toto Wolff, Mercedes’ team principal, has recognized Mick’s efforts and expressed an extreme impression.

Meanwhile, this could be alarming for Carlos Sainz, who was recently in contact with Alpine for a seat in 2025. So, if Mick gets to pair up with Pierre Gasly, then where shall Sainz go? Once again, his future seems to have flung into the darkness. Meanwhile, Toto Wolff said some kind words for Mick Schumacher. Wolff entrusted Schumacher with roles to facilitate his comeback in F1 after two heartbreaking seasons with Haas. And so, he kept his reserve driver in observation.

From what I understand from Alpine, it was a great test by Mick”Wolff explained to Sky Deutschland, adding, “he did really well and I am very happy to hear it. That’s the message I received. They are very happy, but it is something I expected.” Mick succeeded in giving a good first impression. Moreover, Schumacher will have another chance to confirm his impression. As Mick prepares for the 6 Hours of Sao Paolo on the Interlagos circuit all eyes will be on him.

Amidst the chaos of the driver market, teams like Alpine have also shown a degree of urgency. With their driver Esteban Ocon exiting in 2025 – a seat is vacant. Several names have come up in recent times. Among those, reserve driver Jack Doohan and more recently Carlos Sainz have emerged as the top candidates. However, sending a clear ‘watch out’ message, Mick Schumacher has entered the race. His impressive test drive with Alpine and the team’s positive feedback, along with praise from Toto Wolff, highlight a bigger picture.

This means, not just Jack Doohan but Carlo Sainz’s prospects at Alpine are getting dimmer. Especially for Sainz, this could be a setback; he’ll have to choose between Williams and Sauber/Audi if Alpine goes out of the scene, with no other major teams approaching him. However, these are speculations for now. An impressive test drive doesn’t always mean a confirmed seat [but in most cases it does!]. Fans and experts must wait a little longer to know the further developments. Mercedes is rumored to be in conversation with Sainz. So, say, if the Silver Arrows pick the Spaniard, then what else could be better?
