The 2022 season was full of surprises as the driver shuffled in front. We saw two F1 drivers lose out in their seats and both in an abrupt and unforgiving manner. However, most of the heat for these “crimes” toward the drivers is caught by the team bosses. Beloved Haas’s team principal Guenther Steiner did not get a pass as well. Steiner made statements that upset the fans. Now, the Italian boss of the American team is blaming his clumsy use of American lingo to defend against his past crimes.

We all know sometimes, statements get lost in translation, especially in the multilingual world of F1. This is exactly the excuse Steiner is using for his insensitive remark toward Mick Schumacher. The Italian boss is also hoping to bury the hatched after his clarification of his comments. He confessed this to the German news outlet Sport Bild, as quoted by Formula Passion.

“You can’t beat a dead horse,” Steiner was caught saying in the latest season of Drive to Survive. Defending his comments, he said, “It’s a way of saying that there is in America. but I didn’t mean that Mick was dead or something like that. Maybe it was a clumsy statement because the German translation was too harsh and direct. I should have said it differently.”

In terms of burying the hatchet, the Haas boss said, “We said goodbye in the paddock when we arrived. I will definitely talk to him if the opportunity arises. Sometimes you have to wait a bit. Personally, I have no problem with the guy. The relationship was made to look worse than it was.”

Blown out of proportion or not, Steiner still stands by his decision. In fact, he even tried to whitewash his image regarding his relationship with his drivers.

Schumacher might have had a poor experience in his dealing with the Haas boss. However, Steiner believes that is not the norm. The Italian prides himself as a people person. In fact, his comments regarding his relationship with the current drivers will make Schumacher read in disbelief.

He said, “When drivers get to F1, they know what is expected from them. I normally have quite a good relationship with drivers. I treat them very respectfully.” He elaborated, “I know what they have to do. I support them. When they’ve got issues, I say call me up. If they have something to ask, they are free to call me up.”

Now, one instance can’t define a TP’s attitude towards all and we have a feeling Schumacher was the unlucky one at Haas. However, his decision to join Mercedes in the non-driving capacity might be a blessing in disguise, so it might just all end well.
