Remember how Andy Murray pulled off a thrilling win against Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open earlier this year? A riveting contest between the British legend & the Australian prodigy. While Murray squeezed out the win over a tiring 5-set match, it was heartbreaking for Kokkinakis. Well, sport is cruel where there is always a loser, and about 6 months later in another England v Australia clash, the tables have turned. And to top it all, an F1 prodigy has rubbed salt in English fans’ fresh wounds after this heartbreaking loss.
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri was in attendance at Edgbaston, Birmingham for the 1st Ashes Test match between England & Australia. Despite many people globally having apprehensions about the length & complexities of Cricket as a sport, Aussie & English fans love it. And Oscar Piastri is one of the die-hard Aussie supporters who were present to witness the slow burn exciting finish to the 1st Ashes test in the UK. Although he also was in the company of British tennis legend Andy Murray, hours before the Australian victory.

Piastri clicked a picture with Andy at the Cinch championships to post it on his social media. However, he did not let this chance go for some Aussie sledging & banter. The post captioned, “Awesome to meet you @andymurray. Next time let’s battle it out at padel 🎾”. While this was more cryptic & showering some love on Murray, hours after this post, Oscar again tweeted when Australia won the test match in a thrilling fashion. He tweeted, “1 – 0 😉”, signifying Australia’s series lead after winning in Birmingham.
On a delayed final day of the Test, England looked to set to wrap up Australia & take a 1-0 lead in the 2023 Ashes series. Although, Aussie captain Pat Cummins had other ideas. Despite having lost 8 wickets, Cummins did not lose hope & played an attritional game to trickle down the required runs.

English fans certainly are not quite happy about this heartbreaking loss & F1 prodigy Oscar Piastri has further rubbed salt in it. Several fans have reacted to his tweet showing their surprise at his love for Cricket.

Many would think that Piastri drives for a British team, McLaren. So there is a conflict of interest (from a fun point of view). Although, when it comes to his sporting allegiances, Oscar ain’t leaving Australia ever.

Oscar Piastri would love to see Australia beat England this summer. While it seems tough, he at least has the potential chance in taking on another British legend, Andy Murray. It would be quite interesting to see if they actually play that Padel match or not.
