Ever wondered where one of the GOATs of F1 gets his success from? The answer might surprise you. Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton revealed in an old interview how he keeps improving himself every season, despite being one of the very best the sport has witnessed.

The most decorated F1 driver of all time once cited 21-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic as his inspiration as he revealed how the Serbian has helped him find little things to improve.

In an interview with Sky Sports from 2016, Hamilton said, “If you look at [Novak] Djokovic, he’s the best at the moment, but I bet you any money he has small weaknesses every now and then and he’ll probably work and train on those to make those stronger. And by raising those, others fall down.”

The then 3-time winner added, “There might be 10 things that are to be perfect, but it’s trying to find a balance. So every year you improve on one area and maybe another one drops down a little bit. The goal is to be perfect everywhere, but that’s the cycle of life.”

It’s safe to say the ‘Djokovic’ assessment played its part. The $285M man successfully went on to equal Michael Schumacher’s record of winning 7 F1 titles.

Lewis Hamilton reflects on his worst season in F1 and it’s not 2022

It was expected from Lewis to mention the only season in F1 where he’s not won a single race as the toughest. The Mercedes driver suffered heavily due to porpoising in the first half of the season. This really opened up a big gap between him and his rivals. However, he still feels his worst season in F1 was not 2022.

In November, Lewis Hamilton told ESPN, “I think 2011 was probably the hardest year I had, just in terms of life. This year is not the greatest, it is up there with probably the top three of the worst seasons.”

He then added, “But it’s been a much stronger year in terms of myself, in terms of how it worked with the team, how we’ve all stayed united. So I think there’s been lots of pluses.”

The Silver Arrows won just a single race this year which was also George Russell’s first win of his career. The defending constructor’s champions fell to P3 in the WCC behind Red Bull and Ferrari.
