Aston Martin has new things coming in for the 2023 F1 season. They recently announced that Fernando Alonso, who’s currently driving for Alpine, will be taking the place of Sebastian Vettel. But as things stand, they are not only changing their driver line up but also their car.
Aston Martin’s new technical director, Dan Fallows, was previously the Head of Aerodynamics at Red Bull. He worked with the talented Adrian Newey whose floor design for Red Bull is all the rage right now.
It is worth mentioning that even Lewis Hamilton, being a direct rival, praised Adrian Newey and his team at Red Bull who have managed to make such a competitive car, which is further the reason for Max Verstappen‘s endless wins this season.

With their new series, ‘UNDERCUT’, Fallows shared his thoughts on leaving Red Bull. He said, “I wanted a new challenge. The most rewarding times in my career have been when I’m presented with a challenge, and I’ve gone on to overcome that challenge.”
Furthermore, being in this new role, he drew in similarities from back in time when Red Bull evolved from Jaguar. He said, “One of the most exciting parts of the Red Bull journey was when the team evolved from Jaguar. A small team with a very limited budget suddenly had significantly more budget, more resource, and more technical strength right at the top of the organization.”
“Watching the team grow, being part of that growth, being part of the success, even making mistakes along the way and learning from them, it was incredibly exciting. What’s happening at Aston Martin F1 right now feels very similar to what happened at Red Bull then.”
When asked about his learning from the much talked about, Adrian Newey, Fallows, claimed, “We all know how talented he is as a designer, but what people who haven’t worked with him don’t appreciate is just how modest he is from a technical perspective – there’s no technical arrogance with him.”

About working on the new AMR23, Fallows said there is a need for improvement in a whole range of aspects around the car. From weight and stiffness improvements to better aerodynamics and driver controls.

Sharing his thoughts on Fernando, Fallows claimed he isn’t very different from the Dutch Lion, “I don’t know Fernando very well, so my knowledge of his driving style is based on what others have said. He has a reputation for very much driving by feel–he really likes to feel the limits of the car.”
“Max Verstappen is a driver very much like that. He likes to drive a car at, or slightly over, the limit all the time, so you need to make sure the car behaves properly in those conditions–at the absolute limit. My understanding is that Fernando will be very similar,” he concluded.
