Lance Stroll recently came out and advised that Aston Martin has missed out on multiple opportunities this season. It seemed a little ironic especially when looking at the kind of performances that Stroll has put up this season in comparison to Fernando Alonso. Nonetheless, Lawrence Stroll was served with a lesson amid his $100 million conundrum by Max Verstappen and Co’s willingness to let go of $33 Million. What lesson was served to Lawrence Stroll?
While Max Verstappen and Red Bull have been the dominant force in F1 this season, just one driver doesn’t make up the constructors winning team. We’ve seen it during the Mercedes domination era, as to how important a second driver is. Not only is he a rear gunner for the lead driver, but also responsible for making sure that maximum points come home. Sergio Perez hasn’t done the best job at that this season and the same goes for Lance Stroll.
Red Bull has been lucky in the sense that the RB19 is dominant and doesn’t have much competition. Hence Perez, who’s underperforming, is able to make something out of the worst scenario. The same couldn’t be said about Lance Stroll. Aston Martin is now 4th in the constructors behind Ferrari and Mercedes. However, Fernando Alonso is the leading non-Red Bull driver in the driver’s championship. Just tell how little Stroll has contributed to Aston Martin in terms of points.

The same point was brought up during the Red Flags F1 podcast as it was advised that Lawrence Stroll needs to let go of his son from the team if Aston Martin wants to challenge for the constructors title. An example of Red Bull was given, who’ll be willing to let go of Checo and the $33 million that he brings in if the title fight was crunch? Stroll Sr. was suggested to forget the $100 million that he has spent on Lance Stroll to get into F1 and think about the business.
According to the podcast, the host said, “Stroll, at some point if he wants to be the champion, Lawrence Stroll that is then he’s surely going to put business before family. I mean Red Bull are lucky that no one else is close to them, but they wouldn’t have Perez in the car if Mercedes or Aston were close. They’d say ‘we’re dropping points left right and centre’. So if Aston ever get in that situation, I don’t think Stroll’s the guy you want in that situation in car No.2 because I don’t think he can consistently get that out of the car and all the evidence suggest that”
Amid the subpar performances from Lance Stroll’s side, even David Croft advised that the Canadian won’t be in F1 for much longer.

Recall how Lance Stroll scored points at the Bahrain GP at the season opener with broken wrists. Just shows the determination that the Canadian has. However, since he’s not up to the pace of his teammate, many pundits and fans have raised the question of whether Aston Martin will keep him around. David Croft on the other hand advised that Stroll has lost his mojo and motivation and will quit F1 at the end of next year.
According to the SkySports F1 podcast, David Croft said “I think he’s lost his way a little bit. He’s lost his Mojo and whatever has happened, Lance just doesn’t seem to be as motivated as he was at the start of the season and I do wonder if we are approaching a time when it’s the one driver on the grid that’s guaranteed a job as long as your dad is there. He then added “But I just have a little feeling that in a year and a half’s time, Lance Stroll will race his last race in Formula 1 and go off and do something else.”
