“I will make sure that there are consequences,” said Fernando Alonso about rumors linking him to Red Bull. Rumors that started after the Mexican GP. Rumors that all started with a cryptic tweet by Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega. Although they didn’t mention Alonso specifically, given the tone of the tweet—upset about something that could possibly happen—the Spanish connection was all people needed to put Alonso in the midst of these rumors. But that’s all they were, nothing but rumors. And Fernando Alonso ensured everyone knew it.

The thing is, as furious as Alonso is for how far these speculations have gone, he isn’t alone. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko expressed his discontent with the rumors, while also making a striking allegation—one that Alonso wouldn’t appreciate.

Red Bull has no intention of welcoming Fernando Alonso

Leading up to the Mexican GP, almost everything was about Sergio Perez. Considering it was his home race, it made sense. But that wasn’t the only reason he was front-and-center in the media. For a while now, his form has been subpar, and Red Bull hasn’t been happy with it. Although the Mexican may have wanted his home race to be the turning point, it only made things worse with a first-lap DNF. With Perez’s seat in question, came Alonso.

Throughout this season, Marko has had high praise for Alonso, saying that he’s one of the only drivers who could beat Max Verstappen. Considering this, what Marko had to say about the rumors was quite shocking. “This is all completely out of thin air. Both Christian Horner and I have emphasized several times that Perez will also drive with us next year. Regardless of the results. He has a contract and we will stick to it!” said Marko. So far, so good. What he said next will not go down well with Alonso though.

Marko added, I can well imagine that Alonso has scattered them himself, because his results with Aston Martin have been very disappointing recently after the brilliant start to the season. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d use his home media to set the mood.” That’s a pretty bold assumption to make, Dr. Marko. But the Austrian isn’t one to sugarcoat his remarks, now, is he?

Just as Marko seems averse to the prospect of Alonso joining Red Bull, the Spaniard isn’t any chipper about the idea either.

Fernando Alonso has faith in Aston Martin’s project

It’s no secret that Aston Martin hasn’t had the season it was expecting. After starting 2023 the way it did—as the second-best car, with Alonso securing podiums quite often—the end of the season isn’t looking too good for the Silverstone outfit. So, when the Red Bull rumors came up, people speculated that Alonso’s started losing faith in his team. When he shifted from Alpine because the Enstone team wasn’t ready to commit to a long-term deal, he was looking for something steady. And Aston Martin seemed to have offered him that.

Given the positive signs in the beginning, it looked like Alonso made the right decision. But as fortunes started changing for Aston Martin, so did people’s belief in Alonso’s loyalty to the team. While others may have started losing faith, he hasn’t. As reported by Autosport, Alonso said in Mexico, “I know that we are more and more like football here and only the last result seems to count. But we cannot forget where we’ve come from and what the project is about. So, I’m very proud of this season so far.”
