Fernando Alonso is not only one of the few most experienced F1 drivers ever, he also happens to be one of the lucky ones to race for multiple legendary teams like Ferrari and McLaren. Whilst he parted ways with the Papaya Army in not an idealistic fashion, it seems like he’s now finally moving on, as Alonso prepares to offload a $1.7 million McLaren car.
Following his heroics at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has set his sights on getting rid of a beautiful McLaren beast. Perhaps a way to finally move on completely from McLaren, the 42-year-old will soon goodbye to one of the most beautiful cars from his garage.

In recent news, according to Auto Motor und Sport, Fernando Alonso’s prized possession, a McLaren Elva has popped up for auction. During his earlier stint at McLaren, Alonso purchased this Elva. However, come 25th November 2023, his Elva made a surprising appearance on Bonhams Cars’ auction website, boasting an estimated price tag of approximately $1.7 million.
Bonhams Cars is one of the most exquisite online platforms for purchasing and selling collector cars. Interestingly enough, they also happen to be the auction partner of Formula 1 Paddock Club, at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2023, which will be the final race of the current season. Given the location’s grand theme and the race weekend expected to be attended by several potential buyers, this collaboration makes a lot of sense.
While the Aston Martin driver will be looking forward to having another great weekend after his heroics earned him a podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix, one lucky person will get to own his Beauty and the Beast, McLaren Elva.
Not only is Alonso’s Elva a limited-edition MSO-specked hypercar with no windshield, but it’s also a very low mileage car, according to Bohams Cars. So low that it’s been sitting in the garage of the former Ferrari driver. With only 4 kilometers on the odometer, this particular Elva has to be one of the most prestigious examples of its kind.
Surely Fernando Alonso is about to earn a nice profit on this car. Considering the limited edition and low mileage of it. Moreover, what better way to finally move on from McLaren than doing so while earning a really good profit?
Selling his McLaren Elva to make room for his upcoming Aston Martin Valkyrie?
Many would question why would Alonso firstly not drive his $1.7 million McLaren Elva at all, and secondly then look to sell it. Given his successful F1 career, it’s safe to assume that it’s most likely not because of preserving the value of the car to capitalize on it. Interestingly enough, it might simply be because of his upcoming new car, an Aston Martin Valkyrie.

In a recent interview with the GQ, Alonso joked about not getting an employee discount, while configuring his Valkyrie, as he stated. “I’d hoped for an employee discount! That was my wish, and I took it for granted probably. I went through the specification with them – green with a touch of lime, to look like my F1 car – and then looked to see what the discount was. There was no discount! By then it was too late. It’ll attract some eyes, this car, I will not be able to go incognito.”
Well, driving a majestic 6.5-litre V12 engine that produces 1140 BHP when equipped with its hybrid motor certainly comes at a cost. But let’s be honest, it’s certainly the coolest way to not be incognito! Perhaps now it makes sense why Alonso is getting rid of his Elva and moving on from McLaren for good!
