After seven years of absence from the pinnacle of motor racing, former McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, has joined the Aston Martin F1 team as a Group Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Performance Technologies.

Martin Whitmarsh became one of the biggest entities in Formula 1 during his 25 years stint with McLaren. The 63-year-old eventually succeeded Ron Dennis at the Woking-based team as a team principal in 2008.

After he left McLaren in 2014, Martin has mainly been involved in America’s Cup with Ben Ainslie Racing, but will now return to Formula 1 with the Silverstone-based team.

“Obviously, we expected to strengthen the team, otherwise there is no point signing new people or adding people to the team. I think it looks like a strong recruitment and hopefully helps us to achieve what we want to achieve in the future,” concluded the German.
