Despite facing a challenging start to the season with his wrist injuries from a cycling accident, Lance Stroll secured an impressive P6 at the opening round in Bahrain. However, as the season went on, his performance seemed to fluctuate compared to teammate Fernando Alonso. Yet, Aston Martin Principal, Mike Krack, has been supportive of Stroll and defended him against criticism. Krack highlighted that the championship table doesn’t reveal the full story and spoke highly of Stroll’s tenacity during his comeback from injury, which motivated the entire team.

Stroll has failed to achieve any podium finishes this year, in contrast to Alonso’s six. As a result, he finds himself trailing Alonso by a significant margin of 102 points in the Drivers’ standings, making it one of the largest deficits between teammates on the grid.

While Stroll has contributed 47 points to Aston Martin’s position in the Constructors’ Championship, some have speculated about his future in the sport. Sky F1 commentator David Croft believes that Stroll’s motivation has waned recently, and he might not stay in Formula 1 for much longer. Despite being one of the more experienced drivers on the grid, having debuted at just 17 years old, Stroll is yet to outscore a teammate over an entire F1 season.

Although he acknowledges the courage and determination, Stroll showed during the season opener with his injuries. Nevertheless, Croft expressed concern about Stroll’s current form compared to the beginning of the season and speculated that he might not have a place in F1 in the near future.

A factor that might secure Stroll’s place on the grid is his father’s ownership of the Aston Martin team. Stroll has faced stiff competition from drivers like Felipe Massa, Sergio Perez, and Sebastian Vettel in the past, but Alonso’s performance may prove to be the most significant challenge yet.
