Serial winner Lewis Hamilton has almost won all there is to win as a Formula 1 driver. Among those many wins, Hamilton has also won the Autosport British Competition Driver of the Year Award. An award he is nominated for again in 2022 alongside George Russell and Lando Norris.

Autosport hands out these awards based on voting by their readers and subscribers of the magazine. The awards celebrate the top drivers and competition machines year since 1982. Hamilton has won the Autosport award six years in a row from 2013 to 2018. However, after the rule changed, a driver could only be nominated in one category.

This rule change helped the other British drivers earn the award. Following the change, Lando Norris has claimed the award from 2019 onwards. The McLaren Brit has pipped Mercedes man George Russell all three times as a fellow nominee.

However, 2022 could be the year for the young Mercedes man. Or his world championship-winning teammate could earn votes to win the award one more time. The 2022 championship season had a lot of ups and downs. It’ll be interesting to see who the readers of the Autosport magazine vote for.

Although the nominees include one more driver, Tom Blomqvist, New Zealand-based, Britain-born Swedish professional racing driver, who has equal opportunity among the F1 men. So the award might come the IMSA SportsCar racer’s way.

Regardless, the fans on Twitter are casting their votes for their driver of choice.

Fans are casting their votes by replying to the tweet with their reasoning for their driver of choice.

There are the obvious Hamilton fans.

There were fans who pointed out George Russell’s brilliant effort in the poor W13.

Fans also pointed out Norris’s consistent performance with McLaren despite their loyalties lying elsewhere.

There were a couple of fans voting for Tom Blomqvist as well, while pointing out an important aspect.

Whereas there were some fans who voiced their opinion on the exclusion of some British drivers, like Mike Conway, Tom Ingram, and Oliver Turvey.
