Do you recall how Michael Schumacher helped Mercedes by sowing the seeds of greatness in the team before retiring at the end of 2012? Lewis Hamilton was the beneficiary as he won 6 titles with Mercedes. The Aston Martin story looks surprisingly similar. A rebranded team, multiple-time German World Champion helping build up the team, he retires and then a Former McLaren driver starts achieving results. As Fernando Alonso’s ‘El Plan’ comes to life, Sebastian Vettel shares his thoughts about Aston Martin’s success.
Many questions were raised when the Racing Point was rebranded as Aston Martin with the vision to win a championship-winning car within 5 years. Huge investments were made by Lawrence Stroll and a Sebastian Vettel was signed as the face of the team. However, the first two seasons were underwhelming, to say the least. The team finished P7 in both years and ended Sebastian Vettel’s dream of winning a 5th world championship after he retired from the sport last year.
Nevertheless, the seeds of greatness and hard work sown by Sebastian Vettel are now growing and reaping fruits in the form of podiums. The AMR23 is arguably the second-fastest team on the grid with Fernando Alonso managing 4 podiums in 5 races, something that nobody could’ve imagined last year. When Sebastian was asked about how he felt about his team consistently bagging podiums, the German replied by suggesting that he was very happy for the team and that the previous year’s hard work is now showing the results.

You have also worked hard in recent years. It’s nice that they’re clinching a few trophies now.”
Many fans explained that Sebastian Vettel retired a year earlier, as he could’ve been the one on the podium this year. One can only wonder how good a lineup of Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel racing together for a team would be. Sebastian Vettel then went on to talk about his comeback and passions.
