F1 drivers have given up their entire lives to dedicate themselves to the craft of racing. And it doesn’t come cheap, too. All of this, just to get a chance to become a world champion in this sport. We’ve seen many drivers fight tooth and nail to get their hands on that elusive trophy. Naturally, when someone thinks they’ve been “robbed” of what they deserve, all logic goes out of the window, and emotions take over. That is exactly what is happening now. 15 years after the events of 2008, Felipe Massa wants a pound of flesh from Lewis Hamilton.
After the infamous crash gate scandal that rocked F1 in 2008, Massa has come out now with an intent to threaten legal consequences for what transpired 15 years ago. What’s his price? He wants the 2008 championship to his name. But as rightful as it may seem on Massa’s part, the ex-Ferrari driver has been issued a strong warning to mull his decision over once more.

On the recent episode of The Last Lap podcast, the hosts said, “Taking the whole race result away makes no sense,” while discussing Massa’s plans. They went on, “Let’s just say they did it, right. Let’s just they gave. Not only does that open a precedent for…What about like Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher in 1994? There’s so many examples.”
“And if they like gave it to Felipe, wouldn’t it feel empty?” That wasn’t all, though. In their opinion, Massa’s been missing the whole point. “It’ll make a joke out of the sport, anyway.” They ended their analysis on a lighter note, though. “Also, making comparisons, Abu Dhabi 2021 was nothing to do with the drivers. That was a stewarding, refereeing decision.”
Hamilton was then asked to follow Massa’s lead! “Sue Michael Masi!” said the host.
And while Hamilton hasn’t responded to Massa’s latest comments. The 7x champion’s words back in 2009 crave another mention.
Lewis Hamilton shuts Felipe Massa’s case
Back in 2009 when the crash gate scandal came to light, Hamilton had already said his piece regarding Massa’s then accusations of the title being robbed from him. Now, when the Brazilian racing ace comes knocking again, Hamilton’s earlier response deserves another listen.
He told Express UK, “I think all we can say is that it was a tough season. Things happened and there were lots of ‘what-ifs’ throughout the season. We had quite a fair battle throughout and I’ve always found him to be a fair driver. So I’m a bit surprised and shocked to hear him say that, to be honest.”
