Many people consider Pierre Gasly an underrated driver in Formula One. Among these many people is the team Principal of AlphaTauri, Franz Tost. The French driver had a horrible stint with Red Bull and was dropped halfway through the season to make way for Alex Albon.
However, in 2021 Gasly has shown his true pace, and proved his doubters wrong. Hence, Tost feels that his driver is as good as Red Bull’s prodigy, Max Verstappen.

When competing in Formula One, your greatest rival is your teammate. When Gasly was at Red Bull, he had a tough time battling Max, and soon he found himself at AlphaTauri. However, as time has passed, Gasly showed traits of an exceptional driver, and Tost feels he is capable of matching Verstappen.
Speaking to German TV channel Sport1 as quoted by Motorsport.com, Tost said, “Gasly may be as fast as Verstappen, but technically the lead driver for this team is Max.
“In other words, he sets the direction in the development of the car and everything is done exactly as he wishes. Therefore, the second driver in the team may have difficulties,” Tost concluded. (Translated from Turkish via Google)

The French driver has had a season full of ups and downs. However, the best result Gasly has achieved this year was at Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, where he placed third.
As things stand now, Pierre finds himself in ninth place in the driver’s championship with sixty-six points under his belt. With a few more races to go before the end of the season, Gasly hopes to pick up the pace and seize some more points from himself and his colleagues at AlphaTauri.
