Daniel Ricciardo’s contract with McLaren was supposed to run until the end of 2023. However, a string of underwhelming performances has forced McLaren to terminate the contract at the end of the season and look elsewhere. With just six races left, he still has no takers. Checo, who went through a similar situation before the 2021 season, has a few words for Ricciardo.

Sergio Perez points out what Daniel Ricciardo might be missing amid all the contract talks

It all began with Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel deciding to retire at the end of the season. Alpine driver Fernando Alonso followed this by announcing that he’ll leave Alpine and switch to Aston Martin. Rookie Oscar Piastri was very much in Alpine’s plans to replace Alonso.

However, all the plans came crashing down when McLaren announced him as their replacement for Ricciardo. All this bustle hinted that Ricciardo finally might have a good chance of finding a seat at Alpine. Lo-and-behold, we have another twist.

Pierre Gasly is the favorite to land that seat now. The Honey Badger is not that concerned though. He says he’s weighing his options. He does not want to rush things and make any hasty decisions. If push comes to shove and he does not find a seat, he’s ready even to take a year off, gather his thoughts and come back in 2024.

Between all this storm comes sagely advice from Sergio Perez. Perez said, “it’s always good to sit back sometimes and enjoy the time as whatever comes next, you’ll be great.”

He continued by saying, “this is our life, this is what we like, this is what we want to do, that we still want to be in this sport.”
