Max Verstappen achieved the inevitable at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Red Bull champion one-upped Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher’s joint record for most race wins in a season. Former Red Bull champion Sebastian Vettel congratulated Verstappen and his team on the achievement. However, the praise came with another challenge by the Aston Martin driver.

Sebastian Vettel won all four of his world championship titles with Red Bull. Such was the dominance of the German that he won all four of his titles in a row. The most dominant season was his last title-winning one in 2013 when he equaled Michael Schumacher’s record for most race wins in a season (13).

Red Bull’s dominance ended with the advent of the hybrid engine era. While Max Verstappen ended the drivers’ championship drought last year, the double title-winning season came this year. Not only is it a resounding comeback for the Austrian team, but they are also breaking records left, right, and center. Max Verstappen’s 14th season win came in this Sunday and the German’s long-standing record was finally overtaken.

Talking after the race with the media, Vettel said, “Well done [to him].” “I think he’s had a hell of a season, so hopefully he goes on and get 16 [wins] by the end of the year, because anything else will be a disappointment.”

Seb lauded his friends at Red Bull for putting together a great car. “It is great for [Red Bull] and I still know some people there, so I am really happy for them.” Vettel continued, “They won races even though they were heavier than anybody else, and I think now they’ve finally got the weight out.”

Max Verstappen boycotts Sky Sports

During the coverage of the US Grand Prix in the pit lane, Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz talked about how Lewis Hamilton was “robbed” of his 8th world title in Abu Dhabi last year. He used the word several times during the coverage. The statements did not go well with Red Bull as the team decided to boycott the broadcaster altogether.

Speaking on the issue post-race in Mexico, Verstappen said, “It had nothing to do with this weekend, but this year has been a constant, kind of like digging and being disrespectful, especially from one particular person. At some point, it’s enough, I don’t accept it.”
