Lewis Hamilton may be the most popular F1 driver of his generation but he also has quite a long list of haters. Despite all his success, people have found reasons to malign his image. Some of it is positive critique, some harmless banter, others are just vile, downright abusive posts and comments. We seldom see him address such matters openly. This time, however, he has hit back without holding any bars.

As much as fans enjoyed Sebastian Vettel‘s era of dominance, many felt that it made the sport boring. The German ruled over F1 for 4 years straight and that did not go down well with a certain section of fans. Later, Hamilton ruled the hybrid engine era but as time passed, started becoming unpopular. Max Verstappen is going through that phase himself currently and even hit back at the trolls for spending too much time on social media. Needless to say, in the times of booming social media, nobody is safe from online hate.

Mercedes recently posted a video recently on YouTube where Hamilton read mean tweets about him. They also posted a snippet of the video on Twitter. Fans found the tweets that the Briton read to be nowhere near the hateful ones he gets on a daily basis. In fact, Hamilton had a fun time reading them and even had a laugh at some of them. However, at the end of the video, he gave a hard-hitting message to his haters.

He said, I just want to say to everyone that has an opinion, everyone has a right to an opinion. Anyone out there that doesn’t like me, that’s totally fine. You’re not supposed to love everyone in the world. So, I wish you nothing but positivity and I appreciate still the comments because they are pretty funny, to be honest.”

Lewis Hamilton’s activistic side becomes a subject of trolling

Hamilton has time and again reiterated that his personality is not limited to just being an F1 driver. He has often spoken against the social evils around the world and knows how big of a platform F1 is for him to use. However, some people feel that he goes overboard with it and that side of his personality often becomes the subject of trolling. It did in the video posted by Mercedes as well. A fan posted one of the rarest insults we have come across.

Hamilton read the user as posting, “Lewis Hamilton is so draining man. Can’t the guy just say a sentence without curing world peace or just being a mad hippy?”

This got a good laugh out of Lewis who replied, “What do you want me to say? I’m a positive guy.”
