Max Verstappen is well on course to get his hands on his second world championship. Verstappen’s start was not the smoothest, with reliability plaguing his opening three races. However, the Red Bull man turned the championship around with his utmost professionalism and dedication.

Verstappen turned the deficit on its head and is now leading the championship by a massive 68 points. In the sport’s history, no one has ever amassed a 68 points lead and not won the championship. Although, Verstappen is wiser, especially after the 2021 season because of which we will never see complacent Verstappen; even from a leading position.

This was probably why the question posed by David Croft, after pointing out the point gap, annoyed the Red Bull man. Crofty asked, “How comfortable and relaxed will you be as you lie on the beach? Or will you be getting a little bit nervous cause it ain’t over till it’s over?”

After a huge sigh, Verstappen said, “I think if you know me first of all I will not be laying on the beach. And second of all, I don’t really care about the points gap because for me it’s all about trying to be perfect every single weekend. And it’s not something that once you have that gap that you start to relax or something. I mean, I still want to win more races and it’s what we’ll try to do as a team.”

It’s safe to assume Verstappen was not thrilled with the way the question was posed to him. However, the Dutchman outlined an important characteristic of his racing DNA as he replied to Crofty.
