The name Andretti is unanimous with all things racing, especially in the American subcontinent. Under the ownership of Michael Andretti, Andretti Autosport has reached multiple motor racing competitions. However, one of the very few motor sporting competitions that still eludes the family-run company is Formula One.
For many years now, the Andretti family has been trying to enter the world of F1. The initial attempt was with the takeover of Sauber, which races under the Alfa Romeo branding, but that did not materialize. However, in recent months, the American company has proposed a new, 11th team join the fray.

The proposition of another team joining the existing grid has faced plenty of retaliation. The amount of retaliation was overwhelming, with the entire F1 hierarchy standing against the idea of an 11th team.
The recoil came from the Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, to all the way from the top from CEO Stefano Domenicali. Following the backlash, Mario Andretti, the former F1 world champion and father of Michael, did not stay quiet.

The former world champion even replied to a tweet suggesting Toto Wolff has too much power with, “This needed to be said; it’s about time.”
However, the example of Toto Wolff is one of many and the American family is growing impatient while they wait to hear from the FIA after submitting a new proposal.

Safe to say, they’re not backing down anytime soon. Despite a failed few attempts, the Andretti family is eager to become a part of the pinnacle of motorsport.

Toto Wolff’s comments on the idea of an 11th team by Michael Andretti
Wolff is aware of all the good work the American company is doing but is against an additional team on the grid. He brought out the comparison when asked about Audi and Porsche becoming a part of F1.

Wolff said, “I think that whoever joins as the 11th team, whoever gets an entry, needs to demonstrate how creative they can be for the business.”
“Andretti is a great name, and I think they have done exceptional things in the US. But this is sport, and this is business and we need to understand what is it that you can provide to the sport.”
