Formula 1 is a very competitive sport that gives you a great adrenaline boost and can have big dramas unfold behind the scene. To provide you with the evidence, we can look back on last year’s biggest drama, the one that erupted when it was disclosed that Frederic Vasseur would replace Mattia Binotto. After several rumors about Vasseur’s leadership, the Frenchman has recently received endorsement from an unlikely ally.

Since 2008, Ferrari has been without a title. Every year since then, the team has been seen competing for the title but falling short. The Scuderia’s management, John Elkann, and Benedetto Vigna, who had the chance to offer Mattia Binotto one final opportunity to make the team champion, ran out of patience with him and lost faith in him. Thus, they chose to replace the Italian Engineer with the Frenchman Frederic Vasseur last year. Vasseur’s hiring is the fifth since 2008 and the team is anticipating results from the former Sauber team principal.

The decision made by Ferrari was sharply criticized, and there were several rumors and speculations regarding Fredrick Vasseur being the ideal candidate to carry on Mattia Binotto’s legacy. The Frenchman has an unexpected partner in the midst of all these rumors and it is the FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

FIA President stated to Motorsport.com during a press conference at the Dakar Rally, “That was a performance-based choice, I think but I believe that they did the right thing. The team certainly deserved better results. It’s not about whether Italians are better than French or Germans. It’s about finding the right person. Then you are not dependent on the necessary luck.”

Along with some supporters and critics, Dutch analyst Olav Mol has his own concerns about whether Fredric Vasseur is the right choice for the Ferrari post or not. Speaking with Motorsports.com, Mol stated, “I do not know He is in a larger organization than Sauber when at Renault and it didn’t work out there. I seem to remember it was mainly because of all sorts of political things. Then I think: Welcome to Ferrari. If there is politics anywhere, it is at Ferrari with all those mystical forces that work in the team and a family that has something to say.”
