Lewis Hamilton was winning day in and day out in 2021. And during that time, he also extended his contract with Mercedes until the end of the 2023 season. But 2022 has barely been a season to remember for him. If anything, he would have hoped on most weekends that it’s a horrific nightmare that he would love to be woken up from.
Unfortunately, it’s not. And as he still continues, there are questions regarding his future, and whether Mercedes will have him as their driver next year or not.
Team principal, Toto Wolff, cleared a lot of things when he gave fans an insight into Hamilton’s future plans. He said “The advantage is we speak a lot together. Just last week we sat down and he says ‘look, I have another five years in me, how do you see that?”
“So I have no doubt that whatever we agree on a contract extension, which is going to happen, that we both are always going to discuss, very openly, what does the future hold,” said Wolff.
Wolff’s reassurance and belief in the Briton might settle any jitters fans have.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, he said “I’m still on the mission, I’m still loving driving, I’m still being challenged by it. So I don’t really feel like I have to give it up anytime soon.”
Even in other interviews, Hamilton has been reassuring his fans with his responses. He believes he has the proverbial fuel in his tank to go on and perform as he did for so long.

Another 5 years of Lewis look realistically a difficult prospect but at the same time, retirement right at the end of this season looks equally far-fetched.
