It is more important to know where one is going than to get there quickly. As F1 decides what way to go in terms of the new team decision, Zak Brown has already picked his favorite of the lot that is interested. But just as Zak Brown and Co. are struggling in F1, these new teams are struggling to find their way into F1’s Piranha Club. Which team did Zak Brown pick and what are the struggles faced by the new teams?

Rumors of increasing the entry fees into Formula 1 for a new team are already going around the paddock. It is believed that the amount will be increased from 200 million dollars to 600 million dollars. This is done to protect the value of the sport and stop the dissolution of the value of smaller teams. Audi is already set to join Formula 1 with Andretti Autosports showing interest and giving a formal application to join the sport. It is now up to F1 to decide who joins as more contenders join the race.

Amidst the McLaren struggles, Zak Brown has chosen his pick of the team that he would like to join.  The McLaren CEO suggests that at the moment, at least 3-4 teams are seriously contending to join the sport. F1 will pick the teams which they feel will add the most value to the sport. Brown suggested that Andretti in partnership with Cadillac is his pick of the teams contending to join F1. According to Soymotor.com, Zak Brown said “It seems that there are three or four very serious teams that will present the candidacy and we would like to see how the grid increases in good condition. I’m not going to hide it, I’m in favor of Andretti Cadillac’s entrance. It would be healthy for the sport,”

Andretti Autosport will surely be an interesting addition to the grid as it brings the iconic American Andretti name to the field with an American engine manufacturer. Adding a new team to the grid means diluting the value of the others, especially the smaller ones. As a result, an increased buy-in will keep the value intact. The F1 CEO suggests an evaluation needs to be made before raising the buy-in. The value of the sport has skyrocketed in recent years and the previous entry fee was set before the hike. Domenicali believes it’s in the best interest of the sport and that people need to understand the bigger picture.

According to Motorsport.com, Stefano Domenicali said “However, in terms of technical, sporting, and financial stability, evaluation needs to be made to see if a new team will add value to the sport. This payment was made at $200 million just a few years ago. Because at the time, no one expected the value of the sport to increase so much. Today the situation is completely different. Our task is to make sure we protect the sport in the best way possible and see the big picture.”
