With each passing second, the contractual situation between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes keeps getting spicier. While this will no doubt add an extra element of drama to the already spectacular silly season, fans of the 7x champion and the Silver Arrows won’t like this one bit. The latest sprinkling of news that’s come out is that the contract is yet to be finalized!

It has been reported that the 38-year-old is seeking a whopping $25,000,000 a year for an ambassadorial role with the German automobile giants for 10 years. However, that has been bluntly denied to the Brit. That being said, while this unfolds, the events of the Austrian GP have threatened to act as a detriment to Hamilton and Mercedes committing pen to paper at all.

During the Austrian GP race on Sunday, Hamilton was struggling with the W14. His brakes wouldn’t work, the balance of the car was all over the place and subsequently, he got heavily penalized for track limits violations. Understandably irked, Hamilton kept ranting on his team radio comms.

This prompted Toto Wolff to retort with, “Lewis, the car is bad, we know. Please drive it!” on the Brit’s airwaves. Naturally, this radio exchange has sparked rumors of potential unrest between the duo dooming any chance of Hamilton resigning.

But Wolff has revealed an uglier side to their relationship whilst quelling this rumor. He was quoted as saying, “You should hear us talking on the phone and meeting each other. That was nothing. We have had a bad weekend, all of us in the team, and that just makes us stronger. It was only for the best interest of the driver and the team. Sometimes there is a certain moment when you need to calm things down but I meant well.”
