After underperforming for two years, Mick Schumacher’s future at Haas and Formula 1 is looking uncertain. With just two more races to go in the season, Haas has still not revealed its drivers’ lineup for next season. The seat is also being linked to Nico Hulkenberg, but former Haas driver Romain Grosjean feels Mick should continue with the team.

Mick is currently sitting in 16th in the drivers’ standings with 12 points to his name. His accumulated points are exactly half of what his teammate Kevin Magnussen has managed. However, that isn’t the only reason for his dwindling future with the American team. The German crashing the car too often has proven costly for the team that works on a tight budget.

Mick Schumacher had earlier received an ultimatum from the team boss to score some points if he wanted to keep his seat. Since then, he’s had two races with no points. Romain Grosjean however, feels Mick is showing improvement and should retain the Haas seat in 2023.

Grosjean, while speaking on Sky Sports’ Any Driven Monday, said, “I think Mick deserves the seat. He started a little bit slow this season but he’s definitely growing into it – he’s been doing some good races recently.”

“You know, I think some of the reason [is] that we’re told that Mick ‘you know, he was breaking too many cars and costing the team too much,'” he continued.

It will be interesting to see if Haas goes with Schumacher Jr. for another season. But they are still weighing their options with Aston Martin reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg. So nothing is certain yet. Kevin Magnussen certainly has no problem sharing the garage with his old nemesis.

Kevin Magnussen is okay with having Nico Hulkenberg as his partner at Haas

Magnussen and Hulkenberg have had their fair share of drama on and off the track in the past. The most significant episode happened at the 2017 Hungarian GP when the Dane pushed the then-Renault man off the track. Hulkenberg later confronted Kevin while the latter was giving an interview post-race. The mic caught Kevin telling Nico, “s*ck my b*lls”.

Magnussen has now recently clarified“I think I’ve said many times now, that I don’t have a problem with Nico at all.”

He added, “Actually, I respect him as a racing driver, I don’t really know him as a person. But certainly as a racing driver, I’ve always respected him so I would have no problem.”
