Amid Championship Confusion, and on Track Chaos – Valtteri Bottas’ Rosa the Reindeer Steals the Spotlight at Japanese GP

We have all heard about the adorable bulldogs of Lewis Hamilton. But having a dog as a pet just might be too mainstream for Valtteri Bottas. The ex-Mercedes driver has a pet you could never guess.

Valtteri Bottas currently drives for Alfa Romeo. Previously, he partnered with Hamilton at Mercedes between 2017 and 2021.

Bottas is a native of Nastola, a town in Finland. The nation is home to a number of even-toed ungulates, called Artiodactyls. Species of the order present in Finland include reindeer, moose, and roe deer.

During this weekend’s GP at Suzuka, a small information snippet released by Formula 1 disclosed an interesting fact about Bottas. The Finn has a pet reindeer in Finland, named Rosa.

While the knowledge of his pet is not new, the feature during race time made it blow up on the internet. 

Pets of other drivers, current and former, have had their fame on social media too. Among the most famous include Roscoe and Coco (now deceased). Roscoe and Coco have their own Instagram account boasting a following of 654,000 followers. Lewis Hamilton has also spoken about how Roscoe earns $700 per day through his modeling assignments and Instagram.

Former Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, has a golden retriever named Alvin. Former Mercedes driver, Nico Rosberg, has a dog named Bailey. Kevin Magnussen has an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Elsa.

Of the long list of pets, undoubtedly the most unique and impressive is Bottas’ reindeer. But it’s difficult to make a call on which one is the cutest, so we’ll leave that for another day.
