After his demotion in 2019 to Toro Rosso, Pierre Gasly has spent most of his career in the Faenza-based outfit. With Red Bull signing Sergio Perez until the end of 2024, any hope of returning to the top team seems unlikely for the Frenchman. There have been rumors in the Formula 1 paddock that Pierre could be looking to go to teams like McLaren.

Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Pierre Gasly has been looking at other opportunities. Now, AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost has given clarity on what his team’s lineup will look like. Speaking to the media, Tost confirmed that Pierre won’t be going anywhere and said “it’s 100% confirmed” that Gasly will be staying.

“It’s logical, it’s not like it was a surprise,” Gasly commented on Sergio Perez’s deal. “I’m a very objective person and based on what they expect from the second driver, Perez ticks all the boxes. He’s having an amazing season, he’s performing very well, fast, has some backup financially, good experience and he’s a good fit for the team. So it’s not like it was a surprise at all for me.”
And while he was happy for Checo, the AlphaTauri driver commented that his career and ambitions were impacted. He further added that discussions with Helmut Marko were on about the future and how to proceed.
