Acting is magical. Change the look and the attitude, and you can be anyone. A current F1 star has spoken very highly of Matt Damon and Christian Bale for the roles played by them in a movie together. The F1 star explains how the celebrities and the movie crew were very realistic in portraying the reality of racing in earlier times.
Modern racing engines are equipped with forced induction pressurizing the oxygen that goes in. More oxygen means more fuel can be burnt increasing the power output. Back in the 60s, the engines were not turbocharged, which meant higher displacement and/or a higher revving engine were the only ways of improving the performance. Engines didn’t have any limiters which meant the higher the revs were more the power output. However, the increase in power came with the risk of an engine breaking down.

Esteban Ocon praised the efforts of the crew of the movie released in 2019 named Ford vs Ferrari. Matt Damon and Christian Bale have done an outstanding job of portraying the reality of motor racing in the ‘60s. During the Daytona 24-hour scene, Matt Damon asks Christian Bale to push the revs upwards of 7000 RPM. Team radio was not a thing back then, so Matt Damon had to use a sign to indicate the same. Pushing the revs increased the power output, helping Bale win the race.
Esteban Ocon in a video with GQ sports said “The engines don’t have limiters either, so the higher you go the more likely it is you’ll break the engine. But most of the time it meant more power as well. Now we have turbo’s so we dont have to go as high in the revs. That’s why he’s telling him to just put pedal to the metal, go over 7000 and dont worry about breaking the engine. You see the team management dynamic is still there. He’s doing it with a sign but now we have radios. But yeah, this is realistic to an extent.”

Earlier in February, Red Bull announced its partnership with Ford starting in 2026 during the RB19 launch. However, Ford will not be entering as a constructor but as a technical partner. Ford will e proving the electrical support relating to the batteries and the software while the internal combustion engine will be produced by Red Bull Powertrains only. This means Ford and Ferrari will not be competing in the same way as they were back in the ‘60s but still a nice feeling to have Ford back in F1.
According to Formula1.com Christian Horner said, “It’s a very straightforward agreement where we will have the ability to share and have access to R&D, particularly on the EV side and self-technology, software development and so on.”
