Lewis Hamilton came 4th in the Canadian Grand Prix, the race where he had his first win back in 2007. The world champion who has enjoyed a reign of dominance in F1 previously has not yet scored a podium while George Russell managed to bring a trophy home for the team. In the race,  Hamilton showed that he was not done with racing and still has it in him to get on the podium.

The man with 103 wins in his career, is obvious to attract fans from all walks of life. This includes motorsport legend, Mary McGee, who was down at the Mercedes garage to see Lewis Hamilton. She was supporting the British driver and could be seen as why the Mercedes driver had his season’s best finish. However, one thing only a few people know, Lewis Hamilton is working along with McGee as a producer for her biopic, and the female motorsport legend was down to support him at the Canadian Grand Prix.

It’s always a disappointment to let your fans down, and that was the responsibility on Lewis Hamilton’s head during the Canadian Grand Prix. Mary McGee, the first female motorcycle racer from the USA was there to support the Mercedes driver and that led to him almost scoring a podium finish. Hamilton has always promoted diversity in motorsports, and what better way to do that than to help tell McGee’s story?

So when McGee knew that she could make it to catch the race, she had to come down. After all, it’s Lewis Hamilton we are talking about. A Mercedes P3-4 is something we have not seen all season. And it looks like their upgrades are working out for them. George Russell had a chance to win the race as he started at the pole. However, in the end, he lost his place to Verstappen.

Hamilton has been helping Mary McGee get her movie made: Motorcycle Mary as directed by Haley Watson. Producing the movie is the Mercedes driver along with the two-time Oscar winner, Ben Proudfoot. McGee knew that post the upgrades, Mercedes would do well and to show her support for her producer, she made it to the Circuit Gillies Villeneuve. In the last few moments of the race, LH44 fans had more of a reason to be excited as Hamilton was going wheel-to-wheel with George Russell with a chance of getting himself back on the podium.

However, a P4 finish was not something Lewis Hamilton was happy with. Nevertheless, he qualified in P7, which impacted his result in the race.

Hamilton believes he could have competed for the win

George Russell started the race on pole while the Englishman was quite behind at P7. After finishing P4, Hamilton understood that the car could fight for wins after the upgrade. He told F1.com, “It wasn’t a positive race for me.” This might be confusing as this was the best finish the Briton driver has had all season. He explained further, “It felt like one of my worst drives that I’ve had. Bits of good speed at some points, but ultimately a pretty poor weekend myself.”

Ultimately, his qualifier’s result made a massive impact on determining his ability to fight for the win. Hamilton then said, “Obviously qualified [seventh], put myself back there, then I was stuck behind Fernando for a long, long time, as you would expect. After that, I lost a lot of ground, then lost another bunch of ground, went off and…” The 7-time world champion then concluded his statement by saying, “Anyway, the positive is that the car is progressing, it’s moving forwards. I think if I’d qualified the way I should have, I would have been competing for the win, so that’s why it’s quite frustrating.”
